WILLIAM WALTON
Composer

Opening on October 18 and remaining on view at the Beinecke Library through December, the centenary exhibition William Walton, Composer draws on Walton's archive, held at the Beinecke Library in near entirety as part of the Frederick R. Koch Collection. Using manuscript and printed scores, letters, photographs, books, and memorabilia, the exhibition documents Walton's career, from his teenage days at Oxford and his early fame in the 1920s as the "enfant terrible" of English music to the masterpieces he produced in the 1930s, his wartime contributions to film music, and the late decades of his life, spent on Ischia.

Naxos Records generously made their recordings available for the listening stations that will accompany the exhibition.

A fully illustrated catalog of the exhibition will be available at the library or may be ordered from the University Press of New England (Tel: 800-421-1561)

The Beinecke Library, located at 121 Wall Street in New Haven, is open for exhibition viewing Monday through Friday, 8:30 until 5 and on Saturdays from 10 until 5. Closed Thanksgiving weekend.
